As of late 2006, Latvia reported not having yet formed an NGI. The reasons given for this were:
- Not a big enough Grid community
- Not enough political support from the government
- Not enough funding from the government
The NGI however is in a planning stage. The successful establishment of the Latvian NGI depends on political issues and agreement between participating organisations.
