ETICS
From EGI Knowledge Base
The ETICS 2 project develops, maintains and supports standard-based tools to perform complex software engineering tasks for large and small software applications and middleware. The major focus is on automating as much as possible the execution of standard development processes from build to test to release.
The tools provided by the ETICS system are multi-platform and language-independent. They are designed to facilitate the integration and quality certification of complex software stacks and promote sharing of common code and practices. The validation of standard compliance and interoperability and the continuous monitoring and improvement of software quality are critical project objectives.
ETICS services are already used by projects belonging to the grid and digital library communities (e.g. EGEE and D4Science). The EGEE Networking Support team implemented with ETICS system the IPv6 compliance analysis of gLite code and the distributed IPv6 experimental test-bed. The EGEE Application Support team also uses the system to build some of its services and applications (such as GridWay and MPI). D4Science uses ETICS services, as its build and integration platform. ETICS 2 team is now working on the extension of the ETICS services to two new user communities: the High Performance Computing and Aerospace Engineering communities.
ETICS system also implements the A-QCM (Automated-Quality Certification Model) which is the new version of the Grid-QCM. A-QCM is the automated software quality assessesment model designed during ETICS project and implemented during ETICS2 project. Differently in respect to the classical models, A-QCM provides not only theoretical guidelines, but also the way to implement them through the automatic collection of a set of homogeneous metrics.
A-QCM has been designed taking into consideration several ISO standards aiming at creating both a good stand alone quality assurance model and also a model with an improved compatibility with current software quality guidelines. A-QCM will be proposed to ISO for standardization during the last phases of the ETICS 2 project.
